Russian State Library Unveils e-Book Program
The Russian State Library has unveiled a books-by-e-mail program. The Library will e-mail readers extracts from any of its books within 48 hours from request. WOW. Readers will be charged 12 cents a page, and they can get the text by e-mail, fax postal service, CD-ROM, or computer disk. You have to sign an agreement to not break copyright laws and the library will send a maximum of 40 percent of a book. You may use the documents for personal, academic, or educational purposes. The downside is that the Internet-connected electronic catalog of the library only contains three percent of the library's collection, but you can request a book by name which will be looked up by a librarian. The Russian State Library URL is http://www.rsl.ru/ . It is in Russian. The English version is at: http://www.rsl.ru/home_en.htm .
