April 22, 2000Google Adds University SearchGoogle, the search engine I just can't shut up about, has added university searching to its offerings at http://www.google.com/universities.html .. You'll find a list of universities which isn't even CLOSE to complete -- there are around four dozen here, and they're all American. Click on one -- I chose Cornell -- and you'll get a Google search box. Use it just like a regular search box, and -- whoops, no, I tell a lie. DON'T use it just like the regular search box. It looks like you might want to avoid the special syntaxes. Put link:http://www.yahoo.com in there and you'll get results from all over the Web -- about a million pages, actually, which is what you get when you search from the regular Google. Page. On the other hand, search for AltaVista in the Cornell box, and you'll get 171 results. Search for AltaVista in the regular Google box and you'll get almost 365,000 results. These university search pages are worth a look, though I hope they add more over time. Posted to Search Engines-Google
