April 29, 2000Yet Another User-Rated Site Index Hits the SceneZeal.com ( http://www.zeal.com ) aims to be, as its press release says, "an interactive web directory powered by the enthusiasm, knowledge, and experience of its members." It's currently in its preview version. Upon entering the site you're presented with a Yahoo-like subject index which you can browse or search. I searched for Ireland, scanned through the results, and picked the National Gallery of Ireland. From the results you can go directly to the National Gallery of Ireland site itself (though the page is framed by Zeal, the frame is easily removed) OR you can look at the page's profile, which has space for a slogan, extended description, features, average rating, etc. If you like you can go to yet another page that gives user reviews. It's weird that I ever wish for JavaScript, but I found myself wishing that the reviews came in a pop-up window so I didn't have to page back and forth. There are some good things in the preview version. The ability to mail search results or page profiles is helpful. And by submitting sites, rating sites, or referring friends you can earn money for different charities, always a good deal. But no matter how great the infrastructure, this site will have a limited usefulness if not many people contribute to it. One to watch. Posted to Search Engines-Various | TrackBack
