AltaVista, who I was going to rip on for putting the dmoz directory front and center on their site (not that there's anything wrong with the dmoz directory. Quite the contrary, I like it. However, why not reserve the front-and-center of your site for UNIQUE content instead of something everybody and anybody can license for free?) has gone and went and changed it on me!

They've combined the LookSmart Directory AND the Dmoz directory to create one big giant directory of over two million sites. More information on that at http://doc.altavista.com/help/search/direct_new.shtml ..

Google, in the meantime and for crying out loud, has launched a storyline on their masthead. Follow the saga of the Google Doodle at http://www.google.com/doodle.html .. Also, if you click on About Google ( http://www.google.com/about.html ) you'll get a page full of pointers to interesting information instead of the limited information you got before.
