Google Offers Tribute to Mom

Google has a mother's day tribune, complete with many pictures of Mom, at http://www.google.com/moms/index.html.
Now see, this is one of the reasons I like Google -- because they have a personality, and a sense of playfulness, and they provide the unexpected to the visitor. Now, of course if their tech stank, they could be as cute as a bug's ear and it wouldn't matter. But instead of incasing their fast search and thorough results in a big cloud of advertisements and other clack, they offer little surprises, little adventures that maybe last a few days and then they're on to something else. It's very friendly. It's very human. It makes you wonder what they're going to do next.

And listen, before I get the inevitable e-mail of, "hey, it works, what do you want all this folderol for?" Lemme ask you something. Can't the big brains and genius that go to create those sparkling algorithms and amazing engines also go to create a pleasing interface and a machine personality that make you want to come back again and again? What's wrong with that? Why does the interface and the interaction always get short shrift?
