June 12, 2000Bartleby.com Makes Gray's Anatomy Free OnlineBartleby.com ( http://www.bartleby.com/ ) has made the 20th edition of Henry Gray's "Anatomy of the Human Body" (otherwise known as Gray's Anatomy) free online. This edition was published in 1918. The book is almost 1400 pages with over 1200 illustrations rendered in three different resolutions -- well, the press release claims three; I can only see two in my browsing. Oh, no, wait, I'm wrong. I browsed the thumbnails first, but if you go to the individual chapters you'll get a different result. From the table of contents I went to the Neural Groove (which I imagined as a kind of 2/4 rhythm with a nice bass line and a couple of issues of The Scout Report. Turned out I was wrong.) The illustrations are presented within the text, but small enough that the page loads easily. Clicking on them leads to separate pages with full illustrations. (It'd be nice if they were also be available as popup windows, though.) As always with Bartleby stuff, it's nicely implemented and easy to use. Well done. Posted to Science-Medicine | TrackBack
