June 06, 2000Business.com Launches Business DirectoryThis field isn't getting anything but more crowded. Business.com has announced the launch of Business.com, a searchable subject index focused on "the Business Internet." It's currently in preview format and will be rolled out in three phases during the month of June. The searchable subject directory, which is distinctly Yahoo-esque, is joined by a search engine that claims 200 million web pages. Looks like the searchable subject index is their own and the search engine is powered by Google. Currently their searchable subject indexes indexes "hundreds of thousands" of sites, with one million claimed by early next year. In mid-June, Business.com will expect to include news from more than 30 sources (only 30? I don't know about ya'll, but I'd be grateful for a search engine that meta-searched vertical market publications. 30's nothing, especially if they're general business news sources. Come on, ya'll, don't do the usual. Let's get some groovy stuff going here.) and a daily summary of the top business news stories (that you can get from CNNfn and everywhere else?) By the end of June, Business.com will include profiles on 57 industries (now, that sounds cool) and 10,000 companies. Business.com looks intriguing, but there are LOTS of business resources out there, supported by everyone from the Wall Street Journal on. Business.com will really have to step up in order to stand out. Posted to Business-Search | TrackBack
