July 31, 2000Google Adds Dictionary Definitions, Moves Result CountMissed this one. If you do a search on a term for which Google has a definition, it'll provide a link to the definition at the top of the results page. For example, if you do a search for "sour persimmons cousin" the top of the results page will look like this: Google results 1-7 of about 16 for "sour persimmons cousin". sour, persimmons, and cousin are all underlined, and clicking on any of them will take you to a dictionary.com definition. It'd be nice if the definitions showed up in a JavaScript pop-up window, but it's a handy feature. Meanwhile, those of you who use Google a lot will notice that you no longer have the option to tweak the number of search results per page on the search results page itself. Instead, you have to set that preference on the options page at http://www.google.com/preferences.html . The default is still ten results per page. (This is annoying. I wish Google would go back to the way it was.) Posted to Search Engines-Google | TrackBack
