August 10, 2000NeoFlora Gardening Database LaunchedHow many plants can you stand? How about a database of over 38,000? NeoFlora launched yesterday at http://www.neoflora.com. The front page only has a basic search, but mind that "sounds like" checkbox. "diffenbackeea" found dieffenbachia. So if you don't know how it's spelled start there. If you do know how it's spelled or want to search by something else, go ahead and move along to the advanced search at http://www.neoflora.com./search.html . You can search for plants by name (common name, family, genus, etc), description (flower color, foliage color, etc.), characteristics (category, tolerance, etc.), ranges (water, soil, ph, bloom time, etc.) Once you've found the plant you want, its page contains a photo (with links to more photos, but they were all on the small size) along with a page of characteristics roughly the same as the advanced search with the addition of a long list of plant care tips. If you're a newbie gardener, you'll appreciate that the descriptions in the plant care tips are linked to a glossary, so you can learn that "deadheading" your Phlox doesn't mean playing them Jerry Garcia. The photos could be larger, but this is nicely done. Worth a look. Posted to Science-Horticulture | TrackBack
