Fantastic Fiction Bibliographic Database Online

As a non-fiction book writer, I am in awe of fiction writers. I mean, I work from research and an outline, but fiction writers have to make stuff up! Out of their own heads! Wow!

If you're into science fiction, fantasy, or horror, you definitely want to check out http://www.fantasticfiction.co.uk/ , an online bibliography database that covers writers of the genres listed above.

You may browse authors by their last name or do a book or title search. Some of the authors listed here I don't quite get -- John Steinbeck is here, and so is Oscar Wilde. Somtow Sucharitkul isn't here, which is a shame considering Mallworld. Still, I'm picking nits -- most of my other favorite authors were here (I'm tempted to list them, but I'll forbear.)

Once you find an author you like, click on 'em. You'll get a variety of information, including name of novels, name of series (series books are broken out differently from novels, a little confusing), short stories, collections, anthologies, links to other Websites concerning that author, books or authors recommended by that author, etc. (There's also a referral box at the bottom saying, "Visitors to this page have also looked at these authors" giving you more browsing opportunities.)

Clicking on a book title brings you a page for that book, with the cover and what looks like the back cover blurb. Don't print off the cover and go looking for the book in your bookstore, though -- at least not if you're American. My copy of Feet of Clay doesn't look ANYTHING like the Feet of Clay cover on the Web site. Stick to the title and author when you're searching for the title in your favorite book store.

Great stuff. Worth a look.
