December 28, 2000Find Plants in the UK -- By PostcodeThe Postcode Plant Database ( http://www.nhm.ac.uk/scienc e/projects/fff/ ) was developed to find native plants and wildlife by postcode. The front page search interface is very simple; give the first part of a postcode. (I used KT22.) The resulting page -- around 400K in this case! -- gives you the form, common name, scientific name, and whether there's a picture of the plant available -- a variety of plants including annuals, trees, and shrubs are listed. (Plant listings that have a small GW beside them are considered gardenworthy.) Click on the common name and you'll get more information about the plant, including its conservation status and garden status. The pictures, when available, were gorgeous.
