January 25, 2001Washington State Gets A History PlaceHistoryLink ( http://www.historylink.org ) is an encyclopedia of information on Seattle and King County, Washington. Currently the site has over 2000 essays (searchable by keyword) pertaining to the region. There are several "galleries" that give slide-show like presentations on historical events in the area. There's also a timeline showing events of both local interest and national importance. The "People's Index" gives a directory of essays (over 75) that are personal recollections of life in the area. The essays cover a huge span of history, from the 1930's to the WTO protests at the end of 1999. If you want to browse, check out the search link, which will allow you to both search the essays by keyword and browse the collection's resources by topic. I understand this site will soon be expanding to cover the entire state of Washington. They've made an excellent head start; this is a well-done site with plenty of information. Worth a look.
