February 15, 2001More On Yahoo NewsAfter I posted the information on finding news with a http://xx.news.yahoo.com format, reader BP looked around and sent me some feedback on their findings: "You may already be aware of this but the http://xx.news.yahoo.com or http://xx.dailynews.yahoo.com/ system isn't consistent. With at least some countries (such as Canada) either one will return the expected site, but with other countries either the "news" version doesn't work (e.g. Singapore: http://sg.dailynews.yahoo.com/ works, but http://sg.news.yahoo.com/ returns a "no permission" page) or the "dailynews" version doesn't (e.g. India: http://in.news.yahoo.com/ works, but http://in.dailynews.yahoo.com/ apparently doesn't exist at all). Australia merely redirects to the homepage for Yahoo! Australia and New Zealand. Still others use different formats, such as Yahoo! Japan (which is located at http://news.yahoo.co.jp/headlines/< /a> , but http://jp.news.yahoo.com/ doesn't work) or Yahoo! en Español for which the "noticias" page is http://espanol.yahoo.com/noticias/< /a> . Although there are national Spanish language news sites that follow the pattern (like España at http://es.news.yahoo.com ) and others that don't (such as México at http://mx.fullcoverage.yahoo.com/ , and "dailynews" or "news" are not found). "Coincidentally, "fullcoverage" is also not consistent because it sometimes points to the same news page as with "news", other times points to a full coverage style news page (similar to the one at http://fullcoverage.yahoo.com/ , Yahoo! India for example does that for this page: http://in.fullcoverage.yahoo.com/ ) and occasionally it will resolve to My! Yahoo instead (for example, Yahoo! Canada at: http://ca.fullcoverage.yahoo.com/ ). Thanks for taking the time to do this, BP! Posted to Search Engines-Yahoo | TrackBack
