March 28, 2001West Virginia Offers Tourism DatabaseWest Virginia has announced a database of tourism opportunities at http://www.callwva.com/travelplanner/ . The database contains over 8,000 listings of statewide tourism facilities, events, and activities. The search engine interface is a map of West Virginia divided into regions and a few drop-down menus, a text-entry box, and a set of radio buttons. You may specify the region (helpfully marked on the map), a keyword (available from a pull-down menu -- you may not specify your own keyword), name (here you can enter a keyword), and how many results you want displayed per page (10, 20, or 30.) You don't have to use every option in this search interface -- for example, you may search just for paintball opportunities and not specify region. You could also search for the name "paintball" and not specify one of the keywords on the list. The results page just gives a list of sites. Clicking on a site gives a page of information including site name, address, phone, fax, description, e-mail, Web address, and amenities. Not all information is available for all sites. Worth a look.
