April 02, 2001Churches In New JerseyQuick, how many 18th and 19th century churches do you think there are in New Jersey? Would you believe over 1000? And about half of them are included in the database at http://www.njchurchscape.com/ . At the moment, the churches are browsable only by county, though the site wrangler tells me that will change in the future. Listings are provided in tables, with information on municipality, church name, sect, date founded, date built, and style. Some church names are clickable. Click on them and you'll get a picture of the church as well as some notes on its architecture. I wish these pictures were larger. This site also has some additional items, like the "Feature of the Month" and the "Vintage Photograph of the Month." In addition, churches continue to be added to the database. This site has lots of growing to do, but there's plenty to see now -- worth a look. Posted to US-New Jersey
