April 02, 2001What's Wrong With Spot or Rover?Lassie = lame? Morris just not going to cut it? Need some help in finding a name for your pet? Bow Wow Meow ( http://www.bowwow.com.au/ ) has a database of pet names that might get you pointed in the right direction. There's several different ways to search this database. The main search allows you to specify dog or cat, male or female, and a name category (cartoon, drink, affectionate, personality, appearance, etc.) Search results will include name, meaning, famous usage (if any), related names (if any), movie usage (if any), and popularity of the name in the US and the UK (if available.) Single name allows you to search by name, and includes the same details as above with interesting facts. (Apparently there were 2 million Rover Beanie Babies produced. Who knew.) Pairs allows you to search for matching pairs of pet names. And Alpha, of course, allows you to specify cat or dog, male or female, then receive a list of names starting with a specified letter. In addition to the name database, there's a list of the top 20 pet names ("Simon"?), names of the month (hasn't been updated since last December, though) and a gallery of cat and dog photographs.
