Small Town Papers Available in Their Entirety Online

In the same vein as the New York Times project I reported on last week, here's SmallTownPapers.com at http://www.smalltownpapers.com/ . This site takes small town papers, scans them in, and puts them online in GIF files.

As you might expect, these digitized papers are much easier to read than the 130+ year old New York Times. The pictures are admirably clear as well. Each issue is broken out into an index page with thumbnails of each page. Click a page and the full thing loads; simple. The folks behind the site are thorough; even if the last page is nothing but an ad, it gets scanned.

The list of papers currently available on the site is rather short (around 40 including the ones that are coming soon) and at the moment no back issues are available on the site (you can sign up for an e-mail alert to learn when your favorite paper is updated.) If they do a little bit more -- expand the list, established archived -- it'd be a must-see. As it is it's worth a look.
