October 10, 2001eNature Updates Web SiteeNature, last mentioned in ResearchBuzz way back in April 2000, has added some new features to its site. One of the new features is Hawkwatch http://www.enature.com/outdoors/hawkwatch/hw_home.asp , a map of the US with 15 highlighted places to watch hawks, harriers, and eagles during their fall migration. Pick a site and you'll get a brief note about the area, a table of what birds you'll see in that area and when (between September and December) and links to organizations in the area that watch raptors (for example, the Hanging Rock Raptor Observatory.) There's also a ZipGuide. The threatened and endangered guide ( http://www.enature.com/localguide/localguide_endangered.asp ) does require your e-mail address. Enter your address and pick a state or keyword. You'll be given a list of species in that state which are endangered. Click on one and you'll get a variety of information about the species, including picture and map of its coverage. In some cases a sound file of the species is available. I am always nervous whenever I find a resource that demands my e-mail address before it'll provide information. Other than that, eNature remains an interesting and information-packed site. Worth a look. Posted to Science-Ecology
