October 17, 2001LOC Releases Morse CollectionThe Library of Congress has released an online collection of the Samuel F.B. Morse Papers at http://memory.loc.gov/ammem/sfbmhtml/ . This collection consists of about 6,500 library items (approximately 50,000 digital images.) This includes correspondence, diaries, drawings, and maps. You can search by keyword as usual, or also browse by series. Series are categories such as Printed Matter, Letterbooks, and Diaries and Notebooks. Looks like most of the material is arranged chronologically. Surprisingly, it doesn't appear that transcripts of printed materials are available. I looked at the printed matter category, and one of the volumes of correspondence, and didn't see transcript links. Digital images of the correspondence are available in two sizes, and it looked like you could make out a lot of the correspondence easily -- but it's too bad that transcripts aren't available (I hope I just didn't see the links.)
