October 25, 2001Los Angeles City Fire Department Historical ArchiveThis site isn't official, but it's interesting. The LA City Fire Departement Historical Archive http://www.lafire.com/ is broken up into several sections. Sections include The Volunteers 1871 to 1885 (don't forget to check out the famous names of the early department rosters), Chief Engineers of the Los Angeles Fire Department (a list of the first one in 1876 all the way up to the present, with pictures and additional information for most of them!) and Famous Fires (over 30 fires between 1887 and 1994, containing articles and photographs for all of them.) Somebody worked hard to get a lot of information together in one place. However, the site would be greatly benefited from some redesign. Putting the site search engine on every page and enlarging the nav links at the bottom of the page would help tremendously. But this is still a great site to wander around in with a wonderful collection of pictures. Worth a look. Posted to US-California
