Cartoon Cartoon

I saw the Big Cartoon Database mentioned in a lot of Weblogs after writing it up. Seems that many folks hadn't heard about that great resource either. As I was researching that one, I came across some other cartoon sites I figured I'd share.

Dave Mackey has an amazing filmography and title card gallery at http://www.davemackey.com/animation/wb/index.html. You can view Warner Brothers cartoon information by year from 1929 to 1964. Information includes title, production date, animators, occasionally notes, and a list of videos on which that cartoon is available. This site also has a gallery of presentation titles (you know, the concentric circles with the Warner Brothers logo in the middle) along with a discussion of the title cards' evolution (the title card gallery is a little hard to find -- look on the left for the "Field Guide" link.)

ToonZone has a huge gallery of Looney Tune information at http://www.toonzone.net/looney/. Here you'll find a checklist of all WB animated shorts, from 1930 to 1997 (along with a list of shorts produced for the US Army and Navy, TV specials, etc.) You'll also find the Censored Cartoons Page ( http://www.toonzone.net/looney/ltcuts/ ), which contains an alphabetical list of censored WB cartoons and what's censored on which network. (WARNING: Some of the cartoons were censored because of violence, but some were censored because of racist content, which is occasionally represented in screen shots here.)

Cartoon Research ( http://www.cartoonresearch.com/) has a list of animated feature films spanning the years 1937 to 2002. It starts with Snow White and ends with Treasure Planet. Information includes title, release date, company, runtime, directors, and a brief plot summary. This site also includes obscure 'toon research (Buzzy Boop?), news, articles, and commentary.

Finally, ToonTracker ( http://www.toontracker.com/) contains pages about more obscure cartoons (Crusader Rabbit, Tennessee Tuxedo, etc.) as well as pages with cartoon themes in RealAudio, cartoon commercials in RealAudio (gee, Bullwinkle sure hawked Cheerios a lot), and several pages on TerryToons. This page is a little hard to navigate, but there's interesting material here.
