November 14, 2001Rutgers Creating Site for Jazz Pianist-Composer Mary Lou WilliamsThe Mary Lou Williams Foundation has donated 180 cubic feet of music, papers, scrapbooks and photos related to Mary Lou Williams to Rutgers University. Currently they're working on turning some of the archives into a Web site. From a story on the project at http://ur.rutgers.edu/medrel/viewArticle.phtml?ArticleID=1839-- "On completion, the site will have pages on various periods in Williams' life such as her early roots, her ventures into big band, modern jazz and café society, and her travel abroad in the 1950s. Music will stream through the site, and an oral history recorded by her manager and two photo collections will be included." This is not the first jazz musician site created at Rutgers. There's already a site dedicated to Benny Carter at http://www.danj.org/bc/ . This site contains lots of photographs, some music, and a series of pages about Benny Carter's life arranged timeline style. (The pages seem to be arranged horizontally instead of vertically, so watch your navigation.) Worth a look. Posted to Aesthetics-Music-Specific
