November 21, 2001The March of Dimes Launches Perinatal Health Statistics SiteThe March of Dimes has created a site with data about pregnancy and and infant and maternal health. It's called PariStats and it's available at http://peristats.modimes.org/. It starts with a map of the US (and a link to Puerto Rico.) Choose a state. After a long load you'll get a link to "At a glance" perinatal statistics for that state (they're available as a pdf file) or you can use the menus on the left side of the page. Those menus allow you to search for a variety of information, including births, population, and risk indicators. As you go through the pulldown menus, you'll be presented with several options to narrow your search. (Make sure you've gone through all the menus before choosing the Go button at the bottom of the screen; otherwise you'll be attacked by popup alert boxes.) For some statistics (not all) you can choose the display -- graph, table, or text. Additionally you can compare the statistics you get against other states or the entire country. The first page you go to after clicking a state is for the whole state, but there's a tab in the upper-right part of the page that allows you to switch to county statistics. You can't do county searches, but instead get tables of statistics for all counties. For example, I can get a county-by-county table of birth weight percentages in Colorado.
