December 24, 2001Arkansas Launches Fish and Game Commission SiteArkansas has launched a fish and game commission site at http://www.agfc.com/ with several information collections relevant to wildlife. There's an alphabetical list of Arkansas lakes managed by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission with PDF maps of each lake. There's a list of threatened species in Arkansas, from the American alligator to the red-cockaded woodpecker, complete with picture, habitat information, status, and sometimes rather emphatic writing ("Hide hunters decimated the species over large areas in a relatively short time. The decline was intensified by government agencies, agricultural interests and others hell-bent on draining America's wetlands.") There's also a "critter" section, covering those animals that aren't endangered. This is divided into eight sections and covers a variety of animals including bears, snakes, turkeys, bobcats, etc. There's at least one error here -- clicking on the "more information about turkeys" link takes you to more information about bears -- but there's a variety of information about a variety of animals here including habitat, feeding information, etc. Finally, there's a game check station database searchable by name, city, and county. There are over 1060 stations in the database. Information returned includes station name, address, and phone number. Posted to US-Arkansas
