December 04, 2001Fat Birder's for BirdwatchersThe fat birders are back, and you know they can never be wack! The fat birders -- sorry. Listened to a lot of rap when I was younger. Anyway, Fat Birder ( http://www.fatbirder.com/index.html) is a subject index of sites of interest to birdwatchers. Categories include birding in the UK and around the world, Ornithology, Images and Sound, and Trip reports. The birding pages are really extensive; the UK one ( http://www.fatbirder.com/index.html) has an overview, maps of the UK, a list of recommended books, maps and travel guides, and a huge list of relevant links. In fact, all the categories I looked at had overview text of some sort; usually it was pretty comprehensive. Add to that some nicely-done annotation and you can see that someone really did their homework. In addition to links this site also has a classifieds section (coming soon), news, and reviews. This site does not appear to host its own forums but it does have an exhaustive list of mailing lists and online forums relevant to birdwatchers. Worth a look. Posted to Science-Ornithology
