December 12, 2001New York Times Launches Tolkien ArchivesIf you've got Lord of the Ring tickets in your pocketses (gollum, gollum) you may be interested in the latest New York Times archive, The Tolkien Archives: A Guide to the World of J.R.R. Tolkien. The site, at http://www.nytimes.com/tolkien/, will be updated weekly until the end of the year. Not that there isn't plenty here already. At the site you can: Read interviews and reviews of Tolkien works from 1938 onward (including a review of Ralph Bakshi's film version.) Read the first chapters of "The Hobbit" and "The Fellowship of the Ring." Hear J.R.R. Tolkien read from "The Hobbit" and "The Lord of The Rings" trilogy (recordings from 1952, sound quality excellent. You'll need Real to hear them.) Pick up K-12 (mostly 3-12) lesson plans related to Tolkien's works. There's a certain amount of pre-movie hype here but it doesn't drown out the historical content. Worth a look.
