January 02, 2002Castell Pridd Museum Of PowerThe online site of the Castell Pridd Museum Of Power, at http://www.semidiesel.com/, has several online databases of interest to those who like engines. You can access the databases by choosing the "Databases" link from the left navigation. There's the list of over 700 preserved stationary steam engines in the UK. You can do a simple keyword search or an advanced search for a variety of variables including type, manufacturer, status, etc. Information includes manufacturer, date, location, and whether or not it's working. There's a small database of persevered oil engines -- about 260 of 'em. Information included here is very similar. The site says that database has some photos but I didn't see any. There's a database of about 100 Engine, Tractor and Machinery Clubs around the world -- most of the listings I saw were for the UK. Finally, there's an online database of about 175 manuals and catalogs. Some of them are available as PDF documents, while others are in the process of being scanned. Plenty of resources here for old engine enthusiasts. Worth a look. Posted to Science-Engineering
