January 31, 2002Everything You Wanted to Know About Hardwoods, But...Oak, Ash, and ... Sassafras. Okay, it's not Kipling. But it is tons of information on 21 different species of hardwood at http://www.hardwood.org/. From the drop-down box at the top of the page choose a type of hardwood. You'll get information about the wood including distribution, working properties, and availability. There's a picture of the wood on the page, too, as well as a link to a popup window that shows strength and mechanical properties. Across the top frame is a right-to-left scrolling window that allows you to link to information on the other hardwoods. Across the bottom frame there are links to popup windows showing the commercial foresting regions, glossary of terms relating to hardwoods, and other information. And moving back to the front page, you'll find information on integrating hardwoods into your home, including sections on furniture, kitchens & baths, millwork, and flooring. (The flooring articles are in the middle of the page and accessible via a drop-down menu. The other articles are on the right.) Posted to Science-Forestry | TrackBack
