January 31, 2002Get the Rules for All Kinds of StuffAlas, I didn't find the rules for Cripple Mr. Onion (you can get those at http://jump.to/cmo) but you can get a variety of other rules at RulesCentral http://www.rulescentral.com/. The site is divided into several categories, from sports to board games. The categories I looked at had several pull-down menus. You could choose the sport in which you were interested, in some cases talk about the sports, and do some e-commerce. (Buy poker gear? I didn't even know there was such thing as poker gear.) After you choose the sport in which you're interested, RulesCentral directs you to a text or PDF file with the official rules. There aren't always text files -- the official rules for fishing in Texas were provided as a PDF file. On the other hand, the rules for "Lame Brain Pete" poker were available only as a brief HTML file. Some of these rules are a little silly (do we really need official rules for 52-Card Pickup?) and some of them make me wonder about their officiousness (but hey, what do I know. There could be an International Coalition of Professional Crazy Eights Players out there somewhere.) But there's a lot of different and interesting rule sets here (I always wondered how to play baccarat) and promising categories coming in the future, including parlor games, kid's games, and video games. Worth a look. Posted to Entertainment-Games | TrackBack
