January 31, 2002Myths, Legends, and Folklore in EncyclopediaMyths, legends, and folklore information are available in the Encyclopedia Mythica at http://www.pantheon.org/mythica.h tml. This resource, which is over six years old, has over 5700 articles about people, objects, and animals that are featured in folklore and myth. The site is divided into several areas (Mythology, Folklore, Bestiary, Heroes, Image gallery, and Genealogy tables.) Selecting an area will give you a brief overview of the area, some selected links on the right of the page, and a link to a list of available article. Choosing the link to the list of articles gives you a frames page, with the names of the articles on the left and the article display on the right. The articles I saw were brief and mostly had a byline. Sometimes there were links to other descriptions ( the entry about centaurs had a link to the Bulfinch version, for examples.) A few tools on the right of the page let you send a comment about the page, print the page, or get the citation information for the page. Posted to Reference-Encyclopedias | TrackBack
