April 30, 2002Meta-Directory for State InformationStateGuide ( http://www.stateguide.com/ ) an information guide to the United States, is not the most beautiful site I've ever seen. But it does contain a lot of information integrated from lots of different resources. From the front page, pick a state, and from there, pick a city. I picked Boise, Idaho. Information on this city page is not so much a list of links but a list of links to meta-information, including weather, airports serving the Boise area, a search interface to the Yellow Pages, an Overture search box, what looks like a MapQuest driving directions box, a link to Boise's Yahoo! Get Local entry, and a link to local government information. While there is not a state page per se, state information appears to be integrated into each city page. State information includes a link to the official state homepage, a link to Amtrak stations, festival information, national parks in the state, and a media directory. Like I said, this site ain't gorgeous. But who cares? It's an excellent example of meta-information gathered into categories. The only thing I'd add is a Google search box with a hidden field that restricts searches to a state's pages (site:id.us, for example.) Worth a look. Posted to Countries-United States
