May 08, 2002American Memory at LOC Adds Two New CollectionsThe Library of Congress has added two new collections to their site. Working in Paterson: Occupational Heritage in an Urban Setting -- http://memory.loc.gov/ammem/wiphtml/ . About 500 interview excerpts and about 3800 photographs from a four-month study of occupational culture in Paterson, New Jersey. Search by keyword or browse by subject, geographic location, photo title, or audio title. Audio formats that I saw were Real, WAV, and MP3. Emile Berliner and the Birth of the Recording Industry -- http://memory.loc.gov/ammem/berlhtml/ . 400 items from the Emile Berliner Papers and more than 100 Berliner sound recordings. Recordings include spoken word, instrumentals, band recordings, and tunes popular around the turn of the century. Considering that these are Berliner Gramophone recordings, many of which are over a hundred years old, the sound is not too bad. Posted to Reference-Libraries-Collections
