Mississippi State U. Allows Searches of Congressmen Collections

The Mississippi State University Libraries recently launched a search service for the papers of former U.S. Senator John C. Stennis and former U.S. Rep. David R. Bowen. It's available at http://library.msstate.edu/congressional/collections.asp .

Collections are searchable by general keyword or you can browse by topic (topics include Civil Rights, Transportation, Personal, and Staff.) Collection information appears to be narrowed down by folder, and not individual item. A search of both collections (you can search both at once) for the word "Smith" found a few dozen results with folder location.

The Stennis collection also offers an overview as well as a biographical sketch of Senator Stennis. The Mississippi State University Libraries have several collections of former legislators, but most of them are closed to researchers. Their Web site list at http://library.msstate.edu/congressional/websites.asp has some interesting local and state sites.
