May 28, 2002Morris's British Birds, 1891, On the WebIf you're into birds, check out http://www.birdcheck.co.uk/frame.htm , which is a scanned version of the 1891 Morris's British Birds. The first page of the site includes a page of bird pictures, in alphabetical order. There are 22 pages of birds, from Alpine Swift to Yellow Wagtail. Since the birds are sorted alphabetically it's easy to browse, or you can search by keyword. Clicking on a picture of a bird takes you to a page of information and a large gorgeous Morris print. Information about the birds varies. The Bean Goose had a minimum of information, the Bee Eater much more, and the Gannet none at all. Actually it looks like that information might be put in in alphabetical order -- perhaps this is still a work in progress? Posted to Science-Ornithology
