The center column of the front page provides a Quote of the Day, a Culinary Quiz and other stuff like Todays Events (just in case you were wondering, today is National Tequila Day.) For the answers to the daily quiz you can wait till tomorrow or become a member for an annual fee of $12.95. Chef James Ehler also offers members access to USDA Market Service Reports and special prices on CD items.

Even if you don't become a member there's plenty to explore. The left column has a link to Food Articles about all kinds of stuff ranging from A la mode to Whipped Cream. There are also links to Facts & Trivia and Cooking Tips in the left column, both of which can be browsed alphabetically.

Of course, the Food Reference does have a recipe database. Recipes are grouped under such headings as Main Dishes, Salads, Desserts and Potatoes, Rice, Stuffings, Vegetables, etc. Within each category, recipes are listed alphabetically.
