MyFamily.com Announces Availability of 1920 Census

MyFamily.com has announced that the 1920 Census is available
online. You can read the press release at http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/020627/sfth008_1.html . The census does have a price above the annual Ancestry subscription price -- $99.95 as an annual subscription or $39.95 as a quarterly subscription.

Searching the census is simple; go to the site and do a name search. You can narrow search by, among other things, state and county. You can also specify whether you want Soundex matches or not. I wish you could do fuzzier matches. For example, if you're searching for someone named Benjamin, and it's been indexed as Benjiman, you may end up having to page through lots of results. How about an inexact match that isn't as wide as a Soundex match?

Anyway, results will provide you with a text index and a link to the image. Click on the image link and you'll be taken to an imaged page of that particular roll. Zooming and scrolling are a bit awkward but doable, and for the most part the handwriting is readable.
