July 17, 2002Nat. Lib. of Scotland Adds Map ImagesThe National Library of Scotland has added 500 high-resolution, zoomable images to its map collection. The current map collection cover 1560-1750, while these new maps cover 1750-1928. (This collection is one of three collections that I reviewed in May.) The map collection is at http://www.nls.uk/digitallibrary/map/early/ . A series of pulldown menus on the front page allow you to search by geographic area (Scotland, counties of Scotland, etc.) surveyor/mapmaker/engraver (dozens of choices) and the years of the map. You can also search by keyword off the front page. The newer maps I saw were estate maps, islands, etc. Maps are viewable in one of three sizes. Beautiful stuff here.
