Robin Hood Research

The Robin Hood Project ( http://www.lib.rochester.edu/camelot/rh/rhhome.stm ) is a collection of texts, images, bibliographies, and basic information about the Robin Hood stories and other outlaw tales.

There are seven sets of information on this site. First there's Robin Hood tales, poetry, and songs, by author, from Anonymous to Thomas Weelkes' "Since Roben Hood." The stories have a scholarly introduction that puts the story in its proper historical context and provides information about the author. Next there's an author list, with a set of illustrations of Robin Hood and his band, including a wonderful selection of Ernie Pyle illustrations I remember from my childhood.

There are three bibliographies. General resources has information about ballads, historical information, major authors, and selected criticism. The bibliography of literature includes stories, novels, and ballads, with occasional links to full-text. This bibliography includes Robin McKinley's THE OUTLAWS OF SHERWOOD, which is a rollicking Robin Hood story and highly recommended: all it lacks is Ernie Pyle illustrations. There's a brief list of Robin Hood movies, from Errol Flynn's 1938 version to "The Zany Adventures of Robin Hood."

There is an (unfortunately extremely short) list of sites dealing with Robin Hood, and a list of Robin Hood events and publications. The whole site is great but the artist section alone is well worth a look.
