National Archives Launches OurDocuments.gov

Several different agencies have gotten together to launch a new Web site called Our Documents ( http://www.ourdocuments.gov ). This site, designed for teachers and students, has as its core 100 milestone documents drawn from the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA).

If you're just interested in the data collection, visit the milestone documents section of the site. Three new documents a week will be added to the site; so far there are only three documents available because the site just launched (the entire list of documents to be available is on this page, however.)

The first three items are the Lee Resolution (1776), the Declaration of Independence (1776), and the Articles of Confederation (1777). Click on the arrow next to the name of the item and you'll get additional information about the document, including a transcript, historical information about the document, a link to a larger version of the image for closer viewing, and the opportunity to download a printer-friendly PDF file of the document.

Also available on the site are a Teacher's Toolbox of information (still under development), a list of news and events relative to American history, and a rather short "related resources" link list.
