Digital Bridges

Lehigh University has launched Digital Bridges at http://bridges.lib.lehig h.edu/index.html . Digital Bridges is a collection of thirty representative 19th century American bridge engineering monographs, manuals, and documents from the Lehigh University Libraries' Special Collections.

You can either browse or search the collections (see the tabs toward the top of the page.) In Opera, the titles of the books on the browse page aren't underlined but they are hyperlinked; click on them to get additional information about the books including author, publication information, and description. Click on the title or the book icon for a listing of available pages.

Pages are listed in a sort of outline format; click on the double-window icon for a picture of a particular page. In addition to the picture provided immediately, there are also options to get a larger picture, a PDF suitable for printing, and an archive quality 600 dpi TIFF.

Perhaps you don't want to browse. Perhaps instead you want to search. (And I can't say as I blame you; some of these books are very long.) >From the search tab you can search in titles, page text, or entire documents. Search results provide the name of the document and the page on which the title appears. Click on the title to get that exact page. A search for suspension found 48 documents, while a search for diagonal braces (don't use quotes) found 49 documents.
