October 16, 2002Finding Baseball Literature Citations With The Baseball IndexLooking for baseball literature citations? Look no further than http://www.baseballindex.org/ . This site, an ongoing project of the Bibliography Committee of the Society for American Baseball Research, allows you to search for references to baseball people, or topics, or do an advanced search by such variables as author, topics, or copyright year. Over 175,000 sources are indexed here. I don't know of many literature references to baseball figures but I did know of an essay about Bernice Gera, so I searched for her. I didn't find the essay I remembered but I did find two results. Citation information includes title, copyright date, source, named people, and topics. Now, if you do a search for a more famous baseball figure, you'll get results out your ears. A search for "Catfish" found 164 results. Unfortunately only the first 50 results of any search are free to access. If you want to access the entire list you'll have to purchase it. The list of results for Catfish was $12. A somewhat larger results list ("Babe Ruth," with 417 results) was $25. Posted to Entertainment-Sports-Baseball
