October 14, 2002The New York Public Library Picture CollectionThe New York Public Library has a way cool picture collection available at http://digital.nypl.org/mmpco/ . This site contains 30,000 digitized, public-domain images from books, magazines, postcards, etc. There's a quick search on the front page. An advanced search allows you to search on different fields including title, image, and source code. A general search for "brick" found nine results, presented on one page in thumbnail format. The pictures were generally part of book pages. Clicking on the thumbnail provided a larger picture (sometimes not large enough, especially when the picture was part of a larger page) along with image title and ID. If you click on the "View Details" link under the picture you'll get even more information, including notes, source, and physical description. If you're not interested in searching, you can browse a series of topical folders, from general American history to water snakes. Plenty to see here. Posted to Reference-Libraries-Collections
