October 09, 2002Toy Ray Guns a Go GoCertain commercials I see make me desperately wish for a real ray gun with which I might disintegrate the TV. Alas, I shall have to settle for browsing the extensive galleries of toy ray guns at http://www.toyraygun.com /introindex.html . Who knew toy ray guns had such an impressive history? They do -- they go all the way back to the 30s. This site divides its information into categories from the 30s and 40s to 50s and 60s to European and Japanese ray guns. Once you visit the site, choose a category from the left side of the screen. The right frame of the screen will refresh with an overview of the category including historical information. Look for the photo gallery link, mostly at the top of the page. There you'll find incredible lists, with pictures and commentary, of toy ray guns, from stamped metal squirt guns to cardboard ray guns to the Pyrotomic Disintegrator Rifle to the Space Navigator Gun. This site also has galleries for ray gun box art, ray gun holsters, space costumes, and "kitsch" (rings, puzzles, necklace etc.) Don't forget to check out the Gallery link for exhibits about ray guns. Awesome site. Posted to Entertainment-Hobbies-Collecting
