December 04, 2002Cars of the WorldBewildered by a Bronto? Perplexed by a Prinzing? Autoindex -- http://www.autoindex.org/ -- provides information on auto companies from all over the world. The front page lists an alphabetical index and starts with the A companies, grouping them by Europe, North America, Asia, Australia, South America, and Africa. Click on the company name for a page of information. The amount of information varies. Canada's Allard, for example, has just contact information and a brief description, while Germany's Audi contains contact information, a description, photos of the current models, photos of previous models, links to news, links to assembly plant information, and a list of variations. It's interesting just to browse this site -- I had no idea there were so many car manufactures and designers in the US -- but you can search as well. A country list allows you to view a list of car companies from Austria to Zimbabwe. A category menu allows you to get car companies in one of several different categories, including alternative energy powered vehicles, microcars, off-roaders, and street rods. Finally, a body menu allows you to specify a body type (3-wheeler, microcar, amphibian, hatchbacks, liftbacks, etc.) and see the manufacturers for that particular type. Neat!
