December 09, 2002Ghost Town GalleryGhost Town Gallery ( http://www.ghosttowngallery.com/ ) features Ghost Towns in the western sense; not haunted, but abandoned (well, I suppose they could be haunted but this site doesn't get into that.) This site features a collection of 1300 pictures from 174 ghost towns and historic places in the western United States. The right frame of the front page contains a list of Western states with the locations photographed underneath them. Click on a location and you'll get a page with all the photographs together, some annotated and some not. Some sites have so many photographs they warrant additional pages; look for the Next Page icon at the bottom of the screen. The photographs I looked at were awesome. Check out the first photograph from Crystal, Colorado, or the pictures of the tailing wheels from Jackson Gate, California. Unfortunately larger pictures are not available on the site; what you see is what you get. However, there's more besides the gallery. You can send one of a dozen virtual postcards, download a free screensaver or some desktop wallpaper, buy one of the images (as a print or a downloaded image -- much larger images are available here) and check out a pretty good set of ghost town links. An excellent browse. Posted to World-Travel-US | TrackBack
