December 16, 2002Toy Recall DatabaseJust in time for Christmas, it's the Toy Recall Database at http://www.safechild.net/toyrecalldatabase/index.cfm . This site contains information on 350 major toy recalls issued by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission or toy manufacturers. From the front page you can search by the age of the child, toy keyword, manufacturer, name of toy, problem with toy, recall month, or recall year (the recall database goes back to 1983.) A search for recall items for a four-year-old child found 129 results. The results page includes the name of the toy and the age of the child for whom the toy is intended (all the ones I saw had multiple ages.) Click on the name of the toy and you'll get information about the toy (including when they were manufactured and what they look like) the problem with the toy, what to do (including contact phone numbers) and the month and year of the recall.
