December 25, 2002Vintage Phonograph RecordingsOne of my favorite things about the Library of Congress site is the online collections of old music and old film. It's not part of the LOC, but Dismuke's Virtual Talking Machine, at http://www.dismuke.org/ , is an equally great visit. The site contains several ways to enjoy that ol-timey music. There's a Live365 station covering the music of 1925-1935. There's a selection of pop music from the 1920s and 1930s -- the annotation is delightful and there are some scans of old phonograph labels available. The audio itself is in Real format. There's a much smaller but fascinatin' collection of music from the early 20th century -- more great annotation, more Real format. There's a decently active message board and a short link list. I could spend a lot of time here just reading the recording annotations. Highly recommended. Posted to Aesthetics-Music | TrackBack
