January 28, 2003Teoma Upgrades Its Search Engine
Teoma's improvements include a web-based spell check, which pops up when you enter a word that's questionable. Enter "Flawers" and it'll suggest "flowers." Enter "Elvis Presley" and it won't suggest any spelling alternatives, so it's reasonably smart, anyway. There's also "Dynamic Descriptions," which shows a snippet from each search result that includes your query word. Teoma has also announced an expansion of their index to over 500 million URLs. "Major size increases" are planned for spring and summer 2003. Teoma's also got a revved-up advanced search page that lets you use a series of pull-down menus to define your queries (including must, must not, and should), specify queries be in page title or URL, specify language, limit to domain or site (or continent!), and date of page modification (you can specify either within the last x months or within a certain date range.) The advanced search is still in beta; I had some trouble getting the date based search to work. Posted to Search Engines-Ask Jeeves | TrackBack
