February 20, 2003Gale Offers Black History Month ResourcesInformation company Gale has created a free resource for Black History Month at http://www.gale.com/free_resources/bhm/index.htm . Look to the left side of the page for a map to the materials available. There are activities (divided into elementary, middle, and high school categories, in addition to a category providing activities suitable to all grade levels.) There are biographies about several dozen African-Americans including Colin Powell, George Washington Carver, Zora Neale Hurston, and Serena Williams (but not Venus?) Biographies include lists of works where appropriate and pointers to additional readings. There's also a brief list of links to other Black History information sites around the Web, a list of selected literary works with synopses, a quiz (which requires registration) and a timeline that spans 1619 to 2001.
