Almost fifty years' worth of Sports Illustrated Covers are available online at http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/si_online/covers/ .

There are several ways to search this collection but the easiest way is a simple keyword search. Wondering how many times Pete Rose made the cover? Find out here (18, going all the way back to 1968.) Note however that the keyword search encompasses both the photographer and the subjects on the cover, so the 1982 cover that shows up on a search for Joe Dimaggio shows up because Joe Dimaggio (I don't know if it's THAT Joe Dimaggio) is the photographer.

If you want to do an advanced search, you may; the advanced search page allows you to narrow your search by date as well as search by photographer or cover article author. You can also search for individual articles, meaning you can look at the first cover from August 16, 1954 (Eddie Mathews, Milwaukee Braves.)

Results provide a thumbnail of the cover, as well as the subjects on the cover and the cover's photographer. Click on the cover for a larger cover. Unfortunately, there's no other information about the issue available -- no table of contents, no excerpt from the cover story, no nuttin'.
